The short version

Your portfolio data lives on your own device, not on our servers. We don't have user accounts, we don't sell your data, and there are no ads.

ShareHive is a tracking and information tool — not financial advice. Prices may be delayed or inaccurate, so don't rely on them for dealing.

The plain-English summaries below are for convenience; the full sections are what apply.

Privacy Policy

1Who we are

ShareHive is a portfolio-tracking app operated by WebHive ("we", "us", "our"), based in the United Kingdom. WebHive is the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at info@sharehive.co.uk.

2Your portfolio stays on your device

ShareHive is built to be private by design. The information you enter — your holdings, cash, buy and sell activity, watchlist, your name, and your settings — is stored locally in your browser on the device you're using. It is not transmitted to us, and we do not hold a copy of it.

This means we cannot see your portfolio, and we cannot recover it for you. If you clear your browser data, or uninstall the app in a way that clears its storage, that information is gone. The Export a backup feature lets you save a copy to your own device so you stay in control of it.

3What our servers do see

A small amount of information necessarily passes through our servers so the app can work:

  • Stock symbols. When you search for a company, refresh prices, or check regulatory news, the app sends the relevant ticker symbol (for example "SHEL.L") to our server, which fetches the price or announcement from a third-party data source and returns it. We send only the symbol — never your holdings, your quantities, or anything identifying you.
  • Standard server logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting provider's servers automatically record routine technical information — such as IP address, browser type, and the time of a request — for security, troubleshooting, and to keep the service running. These logs are not used to build a profile of you.
  • Approximate country. To understand roughly where ShareHive is used, the app derives an approximate country from your IP address at the moment of an anonymous open, via a third-party lookup service. We store only an aggregate per-country tally — your IP address is not stored, and the country is not linked to your device or your portfolio.
  • Aggregate share popularity. To power the "Trending on ShareHive" view, we keep an anonymous, aggregate tally of which shares are added or watched across all users. This tally is not linked to your device, your identity, or your portfolio.
  • An anonymous usage count. ShareHive sends an anonymous signal that lets us count roughly how many people use the app. It contains no personal information and is not tied to your identity or your portfolio.

4Third parties

To deliver live data, ShareHive relies on a small number of third parties:

  • A market-data provider, which supplies live and delayed share prices.
  • Investegate and the underlying regulatory-news service, for RNS announcements.
  • Our hosting provider, which runs the servers the app is served from.

These providers receive only what's needed to return the data (such as a stock symbol). We do not share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers, because we don't collect it, and we never sell data.

5Cookies and tracking

ShareHive does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The app uses your browser's local storage to save your portfolio and settings — this is essential for it to function and is not used to track you across other websites.

6Your rights

Because your portfolio never leaves your device, you are already in direct control of it: you can view, edit, export, or delete it at any time from within the app (Settings → Data), or by clearing your browser's storage. Under UK data-protection law you also have rights over any personal data a controller holds about you. Given how little we hold, there is generally little for us to act on — but if you have a question or request, contact us at info@sharehive.co.uk and we'll respond. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

7Children

ShareHive is intended for adults managing their own investments and is not directed at anyone under 18.

8Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version. Significant changes will be reflected here, so it's worth checking back occasionally.

Terms of Use

1Acceptance

By using ShareHive — whether through the website, the installed app, or any version distributed through an app store — you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the service.

2What ShareHive is

ShareHive is a tool that lets you record and track investments you hold across different accounts, with live and delayed market data, in one place. It is provided free of charge for your personal record-keeping.

3Not financial advice

This is the most important term. ShareHive is an information and tracking tool. It is not a financial adviser and does not provide investment, tax, or legal advice, or personal recommendations. Nothing shown in ShareHive is an offer, solicitation, or recommendation to buy or sell any investment. The value of investments can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you invest. Always do your own research and consider professional advice before making any financial decision.

4Accuracy of data and prices

Prices and other market data shown in ShareHive are obtained from third-party sources, are indicative, may be delayed, and are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or timely. Do not rely on them for dealing. You are responsible for the accuracy of the holdings, costs, and other details you enter; ShareHive's calculations are only as accurate as the information you provide.

5Acceptable use

You agree to use ShareHive for your own lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to copy, reproduce, redistribute, resell, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source of the service, nor to misuse, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it or the systems it relies on.

6Intellectual property

ShareHive, its name, branding, design, and code are the proprietary property of WebHive and are protected by law. Nothing in these terms grants you any right or licence to them beyond using the service as intended.

7Availability

We provide ShareHive on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available, and we may change, suspend, or withdraw all or part of it at any time without notice.

8Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, ShareHive or the data within it — including investment losses, losses caused by inaccurate or delayed data, loss of data stored on your device, or service unavailability. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law (such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).

9No affiliation

ShareHive is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any broker or the London Stock Exchange. Broker names are used only to let you label where your holdings are kept. "RNS" is a service of the London Stock Exchange.

10Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
